About Us

The national society of black engineers was founded in 1971 by Edward Barnette (now deceased) and Fred Cooper. they wanted to establish an organization to help improve the recruitment and retention of black engineering students. Since it's dawn NSBE has acquitted more than 17,000 members and continues to grow.

Moreover, the UT Dallas chapter of NSBE was founded in 2004 to further the idea and vision NSBE offers. Their goal was to raise the number of African Americans graduating in STEM at UT Dallas. Since then more than 30 members attend NSBE meetings on average and they continue to grow.

NSBE's objective has always been been to fulfill its mission and has done so by offering its members  leadership training, professional development, mentoring opportunities, career placement services and more.
